Skylarking The Beatles meet the Beach Boys somewhere in a dark recess of Andy Partridge's mind. I've never been a huge XTC fan, but Skylarking and its follow-up, Oranges and Lemons, stand out as pretty high-caliber pop. The complex, bouncy productions disguise the voice of a cynic. The joy comes when you finally listen to what heís singing and realize how sharp-witted he is. |
