Steve Earle

I Feel Alright
Steve Earle put out a pretty respectable batch of records in the 1980s that brought a Springsteen populist spirit to country. Pretty good stuff that country fans should've lapped up, but instead they went in droves for the blander Garth version. Those albums are toss-offs, though, compared to this album and those that have followed. Earle kicks it up a notch personally and artistically. This is the document of a man still tormented by addiction and other demons he has more or less overcome, and it has him sounding both stronger and more world weary at the same time. This literally sounds like a different guy than the singer on Guitar Town.
