The Essential Count Basie, Volume 1
The simple truth is that this is here, and Ellington and Armstrong aren't, only because I happened across this one day rather than Duke or Louis. But in retrospect it feels kind of appropriate. Basie seems to end up a little in the shadows of those other two, not quite the showman and as a result, not quite as popular. So in the spirit of making sure the underdog gets heard, the Count makes the list. |
